چکیده
In this appendix we present the results obtained by applying our method to the problem of boundary detection in natural images. We show that we can outperform state-of-the-art techniques also on this task. Many analogies connect the centerline detection to the contour detection problem. First, in both cases we want to extract one dimensional curves form images. Second, in both situation the exact localization of a boundary or of a centerline is not well defined and uncertainty exists also in the human annotated ground truth. For example in Fig. 1 we see an image annotated by 5 human subjects. Even if the subjects agree in the detection of a boundary, the localization of this boundary differs from human to human by few pixels.

Multiscale Centerline Extraction Based on Regression and Projection onto the Set of Elongated Structures
Automatically extracting linear structures from images is a fundamental low-level vision problem with numerous applications in different domains. Centerline detection and radial estimation are the first crucial steps in most Computer Vision pipelines aiming to reconstruct linear structures. Existing techniques rely either on hand-crafted filters, designed to respond to ideal profiles of the lin...
متن کاملRetinal Vessel Centerline Extraction Using Multiscale Matched Filter and Sparse Representation-Based Classifier
Retina located in the back of the eye contains useful information in the diagnosis of certain diseases. By locating a blood vessel’s width, color, reflectivity, tortuosity and abnormal branching, one can deduce the existence of these diseases. In order for this to be achieved, blood vessels first need to be extracted from its background in fundus image. In this paper we propose a new method to ...
متن کاملEdge Based Tube Detection for Coronary Artery Centerline Extraction
The extraction of the coronary artery central lumen lines from CTA datasets is a necessary prerequisite for the computerized assessment of heart related disease. In this work, we present an automatic approach for this task that consists of generic methods for detection of tubular objects, extraction of their centerlines, grouping of the single centerlines into complete tree structures, and some...
متن کاملA Novel Robust Tube Detection Filter for 3D Centerline Extraction
Centerline extraction of tubular structures such as blood vessels and airways in 3D volume data is of vital interest for applications involving registration, segmentation and surgical planing. In this paper, we propose a robust method for 3D centerline extraction of tubular structures. The method is based on a novel multiscale medialness function and additionally provides an accurate estimate o...
متن کاملModel-Based Detection of Tubular Structures in 3D Images
Detection of tubular structures in 3D images is an important issue for vascular medical imaging. We present in this paper a new approach for centerline detection and reconstruction of 3D tubular structures. Several models of vessels are introduced for estimating the sensitivity of the image second order derivatives according to elliptical cross-section, to curvature of the axis, or to partial v...
